News and Views on Watches

Why don’t watches call themselves “self-winding” anymore? It is so much classier than “automatic”. I blame the Swiss…

That Andrew Morgan sure has jokes. Can someone explain them to me? Except the parts that refer to sex, that would be uncomfortable. I didn’t understand Dennis Miller either, except the sex jokes. I may just flip over to MSNBC and catch Dennis…

Value for Money, that can only mean Bremont. Especially that Jump Hour. Wowsa…

If Suzanne Somers were still with us (she was taken far too soon) I wouldn’t be looking at her watch. That classy lady had gams. For days…

The most underrated watch on the market today is the Rolex Explorer II. No one ever talks about it. No one ever posts photos or writes about it. It is a mystery to me that Rolex can’t make this one a popular watch. Maybe give it a green crystal or a lightning shaped second hand or something. Class it up…

I wonder what brand of watch Charo wears? Cuchi-cuchi…

Chamfer is a made-up word, right? No one really knows what it means, right? It is probably Swiss for something expensive…

Is it just me or are Marvel Superhero movies just getting better and better. Madame Web should have won Best Picture. Another Academy snub…

Am I the only one that wishes that Aragon made a 60mm diver?

I only watch fair and independent watch reviewers. For my money that only means TGV. I am sure that his acquisition of a Breguet, along with several other YouTubers in a short amount of time was a coincidence. Everyone ignores Breguet for a decade and then, without doing anything new or exciting, they are all over the internet. I am sure it is organic. Kudos to him for trying to pull off the William Powell mustache. Bill was an all-time great. And that Myrna Loy was a looker, not much of a cook though…

I bet those Maen/Pride and Pinion colabs are flying off of the shelves…

I don’t always give 5-star reviews, but when I do it is usually to a quartz Timex. Timex is known to make perfect watches. Made in America…

Do you know what Hamilton should try? Product placement in movies and television, that’s what. Get some eyes on the product. That’s free advice…

Speaking of which, what is George Hamilton up to these days? What a great Dracula. No one was ever better in the part…

Those Heuer/Kith racing watches are the best bargain in the business. More of that please…

I have noticed how popular dive watches have become. No one seems to be discussing how diving has taken off as a recreational pastime. We have become a nation of snorkelers without anyone noticing…

Did Señor Wences wear a watch? Or did Johnny?

That Mad Watch Collector guy does not seem in the least bit angry. More like zany…

I wish that G-Shocks had more writing on them. The more text on a watch the better, that’s what I say…

For my money there is only one kind of cheese: Cheddar. And it’s American…

When is Bulova going to make a human sized Lunar Pilot? No more of these tiny watches…

Why does no one remember Mitzi Gaynor’s contributions to horology? And she was easy on the eyes…

Word on the street is that the next big collaboration is going to be Breitling and Sketchers. I don’t see it…

I read WatchCrunch for the long form essays.

(Before he had a talk show on CNN, the late Larry King wrote a syndicated column. It was just little unformed thoughts, sexist comments, and non-sequiturs. I always found it to be unintentionally funny. A law professor friend of mine and I used to exchange emails in this format. I need to keep that tradition alive.)

  1. Seeing “Aragon” right after reading about a hit movie (Madame Web, somehow I totally missed it) had me thinking of Lord of the Rings Aragon. Felt brief excitement about some interesting Lord of the Rings watches

  2. I must be old if I didn’t feel the pastiche needed explanation. The repeated trailing off with ellipsis (aka dot dot dot) is practically synonymous with his newspaper column.

Chamfer is what machinists and engineers call bevels… Bevel and bezel are words that are 80% the same letters but mean different things.
